Usually when people discuss the problem with hurricanes the discussion tends to focus on the impacts, the science of forecasting, how they are observed – the physical aspects. Indeed tremendous advances have been made in the science of hurricane forecasting and also in communicating the information to the public. For the most part, we have been successful in reducing the loss of life associated with tropical cyclones. Where we still have a large loss of life from a storm, we find that human error, not hurricane science was the primary cause. Property damage, on the other hand has escalated over the last several decades. This is not due to any significant increase in the hazard, but is largely due to man’s insistence on his right to live in harms way. Some scientists would call that denial. This talk will weave meteorology and social science to tell the real problem with hurricanes.

TITANIC Exhibit

TITANIC

March 30 - November 30, 2009

The Titanic Exhibit consists of unique collection of Titanic artefacts, photographs and memorabilia, throughout the exhibits. This exhibit will not be seen anywhere else in the world as these collections have been compiled by BUEI from various sources to give our visitors a wide overview of how the greatest marine tragedy captured the public. The collections vary from artefacts used on the film "Titanic," scientific research done by renowned scientists and photographs of the ship by National Geographic photographer, Emory Kristof.
